At this concert, music by Henry Purcell (English, 1659 - 1695) and Darius Milhaud (French, 1892 - 1974) will be performed. Also sung will be commissioned works by Sydney Guillaume (Haiti, b. 1982) and a work composed (in 1554) by John Sheppard. This magnificent piece lay in fragments for five centuries has been specially reconstructed for us by the Washington University musicologist, Dr. Craig Monson. SLCC has been recognized for many years as the preeminent chamber, acappellachoir of our region, and has made numerous recordings, the last of which, "American Declarations" (2014), received numerous critical plaudits, including five stars from the BBC Music Magazine. Mr Barnes has directed the choir since 1989, and was trained in Great Britain at various cathedral and collegiate choirs. He is on the faculty of John Burroughs School in Ladue.
